Dr. Danielle K. Nadorff is an Associate Professor and the Undergraduate Coordinator in the Department of Psychology at Mississippi State University. Her research program integrates perspectives from clinical and developmental psychology, family studies, and social services to address the complex needs of grandfamilies (kinship care arrangements).
Dr. Nadorff's work explores the impact of kinship care on child safety, mental health, overall well-being, and developmental trajectories. She focuses particularly on modifiable factors within the home environment and the influence of grandparental characteristics, such as mental health and access to support, on children's and caregivers’ outcomes. This research has important implications for policy and practice aimed at supporting grandfamilies.
Before joining the faculty at Mississippi State, Dr. Nadorff held positions as an Adjunct Professor at Sam Houston State University, and a post-doctoral position as a Health Science Research Specialist at the Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC) with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. She received her Ph.D. in Lifespan Developmental Psychology from West Virginia University in 2011.
Her publications appear in a range of journals, including Child Development, Children and Youth Services Review, Journal of Intergenerational Relationships, and Journal of Family Studies, as well as in book chapters dedicated to kinship care. Dr. Nadorff's research seeks to provide evidence-based insights to improve the lives of children and grandparents in kinship care arrangements.
